That degrees do you have?

I have no degree! I am also a state accredited instructor and have designed
my own security pen testing syllabus that has been approved by the state for
2 years.

personally I believe in the hands on experience vs. the Academia.

what I do have is the sec+, Ethical hacking, Linux+, GCFA and the RHCT
I teach the sec and Linux classes and even recognized by redhat as able to
teach all the classes in the open source academy.

So Teaching is possible with out the degrees you just have to find the right
place that will work with you.

for example the college here UWF you have to be a PhD or mD to teach and
they are allowing me to teach not the entire classes but modules from the
classes that
I have expertise in.

Hope that helps

I have a B.S. in Management Information Systems, and also teach infosec
classes. If you want to teach, one thing you have to watch out for now
though is, depending on where you teach and who their accrediting body is,
there is a movement towards requiring that you have a degree that meets two
conditions:

1. The degree must be one level higher than the level of the class you are
teaching (i.e. if you are teaching an associate level class you need a
bachelor's degree, if you are teaching a bachelor's level class you need a
master's degree, etc.)

2. The degree must be directly related to the field you are teaching (i.e.
if you are teaching Infosec classes, your degree must be in infosec instead
of MIS etc.)

They tend to let me slide on #2 because I have enough IT certifications for
them to justify it to the accreditation committee. But again, it varies
between accrediting bodies.

I find myself very disappointed with higher education, price for
performance, ethics, etc. I have a BS in CS (I like saying it that way) and
am working on an MBA, but their idea of ethics is not my idea of ethics.

I'm curious, what degrees do some of you have? I'm interested in finding a
job teaching infosec, so if you teach I'd really like to hear what
credentials you have.

Adrian
