I'm somewhat surprised noone has mentioned (or maybe I just misread) the Sans GIAC certifications. I really like their process, especially if you pair the cert with the class. On Wed, Aug 4, 2010 at 11:46 AM, Jack Daniel <jackadaniel () gmail com> wrote:
I was going to pass on this because my comments are somewhat off-topic, but... I have respect for the people who earn the cert, but it disgusts me. "Certified Ethical Hacker" implies something I do not believe, and which I find offensive. Ptacek summed it up pretty well a few years ago: ""ethical hacker" is an offensive term, implying the obvious about those who don't have the cert." There may be some value to the training and cert, and I encourage people to do the right thing for their careers. <dismounts his high-horse> Jack On Wed, Aug 4, 2010 at 10:24 AM, Butturini, Russell <Russell.Butturini () healthways com> wrote:I second Herndon’s sentiments. It really requires a broad knowledgebase to be successful on the exam. You have to start somewhere, and either of these two would be good starting points. The CEH cert is not easy, and is fairly well-respected in my experience. There are no certs that will be universal.....there is always some staleness in every certification due to the nature of the necessary standardized testing, leadtime for development etc. But the CEH, IMHO, is one of the better ones if you are after a technical cert. Otherwise, just commit some high-profile break-in, serve your time, then use that street cred as your certification. Good luck with that.
