Re: Opinions on certs security/network

I was going to pass on this because my comments are somewhat off-topic,
but...

I have respect for the people who earn the cert, but it disgusts me.
"Certified Ethical Hacker" implies something I do not believe, and which I
find offensive. Ptacek summed it up pretty well a few years ago:

""ethical hacker" is an offensive term, implying the obvious about those who
don't have the cert."

There may be some value to the training and cert, and I encourage people to
do the right thing for their careers.

I second Herndon’s sentiments. I am biased because I sit on the EC Council

You have to start somewhere, and either of these two would be good starting
points.

Ive looked at CEH and security+ and just laughed.

If you are laughing at CEH, then I think you have become a bit jaded! The
CEH cert is not easy, and is fairly well-respected in my experience. There
are no certs that will be universal.....there is always some staleness in
every certification due to the nature of the necessary standardized testing,
leadtime for development etc. But the CEH, IMHO, is one of the better ones
if you are after a technical cert. Otherwise, just commit some high-profile
break-in, serve your time, then use that street cred as your certification.
Good luck with that.
