Another thing they don't learn... I wasn't suggesting that finding 
resources on the Internet is bad. My point is taking when all one can do is 
look something up in a FAQ and apply the solution, there are all sorts of 
"unsolvable" problems waiting to be encountered because of a lack of 
problem solving skills.

Speaking as someone who has to try and help people solve problems with
free software, I can vouch for there being a distinct lack of problem
solving skills amongst the community that uses it.  Maybe I just expect
too much of people who have problems getting IPFilter working by assuming
they can all use and apply standard Unix tools to work out "what's going
wrong".  It is so frustrating to see the sorts of questions that I do
that I just don't respond to many of them because I can see that I'm going
to need to "train" people and I just don't have the time for it.
