Ah, yes, percussive maintenance on the PDP-8. I remember...

At one point I had the entire bootstrap loader toggle switch sequence
memorized to get the '8 to the point where it would read the OS in from
paper tape, we had to reboot so often.

And on my belt was my trusty Decilog slipstick, too.

You run your program and it crashes.  Then you whack the machine with a hammer
and it WORKS!!!!!.

Tried that with an ipod, and only ended up with ipod pieces.
