Mark, we cycled more than 2500 students through our 'mandatory' security
presentation for incoming students. Considering our incoming freshman
class numbers only about 2100, we're very pleased with the results. (The
remainder is attributed to transfers and interested upperclass.)

This is very interesting.

How do you encourage students to attend these sessions? Is attendance
good? Any thoughts to (or are you) doing these during mandatory floor
meetings?

Hello,

I started a student-centric security awareness program three years ago,
staffed by student assistants (SAC's--Student Awareness Coordinators).
They conduct presentations in the dorms and on campus, distribute media
materials, etc. They also created a web site last year that is going to
be further developed after I hire this year's SAC's... We warn students
about the general alerts where an outside address is attempting
connections to ports on their systems. It's a challenge to educate them
to the point where they understand and know how to effectively make use
of the capabilities of the firewall.

How are you educating/dealing with residents regarding the Alerts that
Zone Alarm gives off? We've had a few residents with Zone Alarm ask us
what to do about the 500 alerts they receive each day.
