Nate - I don't know who made it - I have been around long enough that people
send me this type of information, pictures, etc. A colleague sent it to me
a while ago - Of course, if the memory size was even smaller, then it would
convey even more how far we have come -

Greetings Valdis:

You may have a point. The picture was taken before my entry into the field.
My memory may have failed, no pun intended, but I don't recall memory sizes
approaching 5 MBs in the 1960s, but that could simply be my experience set.
Doesn't the picture predate 2nd and 3rd generation computers?

Ozzie, you have peaked an interest. Who was the manufacturer of the 5 MB in
1956? Are those military uniforms, possibly Navy?

With best regards,

Nate

Some perspective: Attached is a 5MB storage unit photographed in 1956 as it
was being shipped - Their 8Gb Thumb-Drives must have been murder to carry in
a pocket!

Nice picture, but I call shenanigans. Looks like a staged photo op with a
mock-up unit - does anybody seriously believe they shipped that thing
without a
shipping crate to protect that glass window that lets you see inside? :)
