Re: Retiree Email Accounts

OSU does not provide full-service email accounts to retirees. However, retirees with at least ten years service may
transition their "name.n () osu edu" university email addresses to the University Alumni Association's Lifetime Email
Forwarding Service. That service maintains retiree and alumni "name.n () osu edu" email addresses and forwards email to
an independently-obtained off-campus personal email address.

Hello All,

I have been tasked with investigating how other institutions are handling retiree email accounts. We have had
multiple requests for these types of accounts recently and we still aren’t sure how we want to handle them. I was
hoping that other folks on this list might have addressed this issue already and I might be able gain a bit of
insight into the issue that could be applied at our institution.

A few of the major issues that I see right off the bat:

Do we allow them to use the same email account and archive/purge all of their email that existed from when they were
employed at the College?
Do we create a new account with a new email address that designates the account as a retiree account?
How long should they have access to the retiree email (1 year, 2 years, forever...)?
Can they extend the use of the email account for a longer period of time?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
