Hi Linda,

I'm now at Macalester College (which migrated everyone to Google without a
hitch about 2 years ago) but I just came from Hamline University where they
just completed a migration of the students to Google. When I was there, in
the interest of doing due diligence, I asked the (undergraduate) Helpdesk
students to do a comparison of Live@edu vs Google and report their
findings. Their response was quick: "We'll do it, but we can tell you the
answer already. All of the students love and already use Google; we
wouldn't even consider Microsoft."

There's been a lot of discussion within the department about privacy and
security but the general feeling remains that the standing contract is
sufficient to protect privacy and Google resources will always be better at
protecting security than what we could possibly provide. And the sense is
that the recent Chinese episodes will only strengthen this environment.

Thanks,
Harry

Tufts is evaluating Live@edu vs Google for student email. We’d like to
hear from schools with Live@edu experience (good or bad) in the areas of
security, privacy and contract negotiations. If you’d rather talk with us
privately, please email me offline.
