If you're using Exchange you can disable the automatic forwards from the
server side. People can still setup the rule but it won't do anything:

We do not set up forwards for staff/faculty.   But there is nothing we can
do to stop them if they set up a rule within their mail client to forward
messages on to a external account.



One thing I learned at a conference not too long ago, if someone forwards
mail on to a external account, that external account can now be considered
searchable for E-discovery purposes.

Simply polling the group to see what institutions have made a practice of
accommodating faculty/staff requests to put in place hard-forwards to
external email accounts.  For those that have not, how have you dealt with
requests.policies, practice..?
