We are a much smaller school. If the 19500 messages which made it to the
spam filter, about 5000 passed through as spam. These numbers are offset
a lot since we have greylisting, SPF checks and a couple of other spam
catching things out in front of our spam box (an appliance). Before
putting these extra measures in place, we averaged around 6000 message /
hour (144K / day) with 75-85% being marked as spam.

Though, I guess 14,500 of 144,000 is around 10% (90% spam being
blocked?)

As stated by someone else, 90's do sound high and confirmation on false
positives may be needed.

Subject: [SECURITY] Extremely High Spam Statistics

Hello,

I would be interested in comparing our spam stats with other
institutions. We are currently sent around around 450 000 emails per
day, of which 98-99% are spam leaving around 5000 valid email messages
passed through. This is transparent to our uses who only receive valid
email.

Are other institution's spam levels this high? I would be very
interested in hearing stats as I thought global rates were only around
90-95%.

Thanks,

Tim
