I use NTFS also for dual boot Win2K Linux 7 or higher. Not an expert, but
it works well for me. I used Partition Magic to prep the disks.

Basically:

If you dual boot win/lin: use FAT
If you only use windows: use NTFS
If you only use linux: use ext2

The only reason to use FAT may be for recovery purposes. But in most
cases, you
cannot recover the data on your system drive anyway, when it crashes,
it's
usually easier to reload. I keep vital data on seperate partitions, so
I can
blow away the boot disk anytime with minimal loss. There are only a few
tools
around that help see NTFS disks in a maintenence maode (for the average
sysadmin), but the security is much better on NTFS. So also the same
bottom
line, very little reason to use FAT, when so much can be gained by using
NTFS or
better.

The simple answer is no. You must have a NTFS in order to use Windows
Encryption. I can't think of a reason to chose FAT over NTFS. You
should
consider converting the file system.
