The way we solved the laptop security issue was very very simple.

When we received the laptop we pulled the hard drive out (we wanted to 
upgrade to a larger disk), and shelved the old drive. When we sent it in 
for repairs, we pulled our drive, and send it in with the small one.

Simple.
