Re: Snort 1.8.1 released!

Just for the record, although I've responded to several people off-list, I was downloading snort-1.8.1-RELEASE.tar.gz using the 20010607 build of Mozilla 0.9.1, which is also what I used when I downloaded snort 1.8.1-beta4 just a couple weeks ago.

So although Mozilla 0.9.1 is reporting a download size of about 1.2meg, the downloaded file on disk is 3.5meg, and is only tar'ed, and *not* gzipped...

I guess something *somewhere* is "helping"...

That got it!

cp'ed it to snort-1.8.1-RELEASE.tar, tar -xvf, and kapoof! there it all is!

<whew>

Maybe I'm not braindead after all ;-)

THNX..

Have you tried renaming it to snort-1.8.1-RELEASE.tar? I have seen it
downloaded already uncompressed. Just taking a stab....

It's not secure "Because they told me it was secure".
The people at the other end of the link know less
about security than you do. And that's scary.

umm..

Stupid question, but apparently I've finally gone *completely*
braindead, so I'll ask it:

Why am I getting "gzip: stdin: not in gzip format" when I tar -xzvf the
file downloaded from
http://www.snort.org/releases/snort-1.8.1-RELEASE.tar.gz ?

This happens on three different boxes here, all of which just had
1.8.1-beta4 put on, (not to mention other stuff since..) not too long
ago...

file size downloaded is 3,532,800

md5sum is wrong: b06f7d03b1c414b09eedc570329f6091

And yet I can't get anything different from
http://www.snort.org/releases/ no matter how many different ways I try...
