need help with usb cable

it looks like there are only 2 wires in the pic of the 3.5mm pin, what
happens if it is plugged in backwards, anything bad?, if not don't worry and
just locate the colors, solder them to the new adapter, and be done with it

You mean find the spec for the 3.5mm jack and then work out which
colour is connected to which bits of the jack. Sounds good, I'll try
to find the spec.
