How does everyone balance their “need to know” of system/network outages
with their relationship with local media and/or campus students, faculty,
and staff?

Do you send out broadcast emails, have a hotline, or, post outages on a
webpage?

Todd -

we do a combination of the above. We have a hard schedule of
maintenance windows for the 2009 - 2010 academic years posted on our
support site and send out emails in the weeks ahead of those
maintenance windows announcing the projected outage time and the
services affected. Initially the emails go out to our consultants who
are responsible for disseminating the information to their respective
faculty members, then campus-wide emails are sent out in the week
prior to the windows.
