Re: Physical access control systems

We have had the Best Access BASIS system on about 100 entryways using
HID proximity keys for about 6 or 7 years. We love it, and the time
that I have to spend on repairs and maintenance has been extremely
minimal. Remarkable for the amount of use these things get. They are
mostly connected to Von Duperin panic bars. We also find that many
other departments on campus are dissatisfied with the card-based systems
they use and wind up inquiring about our prox system.

The BASIS reporting functions are great and very flexible. Also, when
needed, Best (although the service has slipped some since they were
purchased by Stanley) does a fine job.

If you need to know more please contact me.

We too are using the Diebold CS Gold system for our perimeter doors on
our residence halls (as well as the rest of the campus). Approximately
1/2 of our residence hall rooms are using the Campus 1000 system by
VingCard Persona (http://www.vingcardpersona.com). This summer we are
migrating one hall towards the VingCard system, and hope to migrate the
rest of our halls in the near future. Some of our academic buildings
have begun using the VingCard locks on some of their labs and storage
areas, and it seems to be working well. If you would like more
information, I'm happy to discuss with you more about the VingCard
system. However, our CS Gold stuff is handled by another department.

We are researching door access control systems for possible
implementation in a building we are remodeling. I am looking for some
help in identifying potential systems. What door access control systems
are some of you using? Any information you can provide would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks.
