There are a ton of topics that would make for a nice dissertation that are security related. If it were me, I would 
discuss the inadequacies of signature-based security applications (or ways to bypass them). Antivirus software and 
IDS/IPS are only as good as their signature databases. NAC combined with HIDS are moving to fill this gap in the 
enterprise but not much is being done for the typical home user. My 2 cents anyway.
