Some additional input from me.

Personally I used 3 softwares to deal with spyware/adware:
- Spybot (http://security.kolla.de/)
- AdAware SE Personal (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)
- SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html)

* Those three sits on top of Norton Internet Security 2005.

To handle machine that was 'bugged' by spyware/trojan, I normally use
Hijackthis and StartupList from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html, then use google to search
for all the 'weird/strange' program names that it found.

Just my two cents.

Regards,
Marlon

I am not sure if my answer is on track with what you are looking for, but I
personally am liking the Microsoft Anti-Spyware program. It may be in beta,
but I haven't heard anyone on my network complaining about spyware since I
deployed it.

Hello Team
I do like to test different so called "free" software available online.
What is the best to test if they don't have any spyware in it once it
is installed?
What will be the best way to test these with out compromising my system?
Thanks
Shyamal
