I would first backup your data; cdr/dvd/new_hd.  Then format your current
drive.  Next run a utility like dd on the drive referencing /dev/zero or
/dev/rand.  This should remove all data and then write over what ever is
ghost'd on the disk.  I think that would make anything unretrievable from
that media.
