Dave,

I was somewhat surprised by the omission of CSnet - given that NSF  
funded it (and even more surprising given the involvement of some guy  
named Farber).

I WAS SURPRISED ALSO djf


Overall, the maps in the NSF site sort of jumped from ARPANET to  
NSFnet, without mentioning a few key intermediate dates:

1983: ARPANET conversion to TCP/IP (arguably, there was no Internet  
before IP), followed by,

1983: ARPANET-MILNET split (I think this defines the "birth" of the  
Internet)

????: First LAN connected to the ARPANET

????: CSnet linked to the ARPANET

????: The various supercomputer center networks (JVNCnet, et. al.) -  
again NSF funded, so surprising by their omission

Can anybody fill in dates and details?
