Currently I've found the most secure (and free) solution for Windows is Ultra@VNC. Like other tools, if you have appropriate access, you can push/install it to a client other free utilities. <http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net> The FastPush script for VNC-variants works wonders for scripting remote installations. <http://www.darkage.co.uk/vnc/faq.htm#whatfp> On Fri, 11 Feb 2005 11:51:15 -0500, Paris E. Gen Control, way cool tool, in a Windows domain, works wonders. http://www.fileheaven.com/Gencontrol/download/9507.htm A VNC that copies it's server to the client (if the rights are appropriate) and then uses remote registry to start the service, and connect. Way cool, and free. -----Original Message----- From: Johnson, Joey [mailto:Joey.Johnson () MWAA com] Sent: Thursday, February 10, 2005 10:23 AM To: Marty; security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: RE: Taking control of user's desktops Marty, This post is very vague Let's start with what OS systems are running in your environment. Second, please provide some specific info on what your 'concerns with overall security' are. -----Original Message----- From: Marty [mailto:groupecci () yahoo ca] Sent: Wednesday, February 09, 2005 7:40 AM To: security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: Taking control of user's desktops Hi, My client's help desk requests for support is growing, with more than 1,000 users its understandable. We need to find a software (not an outsourced service) that will permit the technicians to take control of the user's desktop for support purposes. The user MUST agree to the technician taking control or even «peeking» at his desktop. We've looked at a few but my concern is with overall security. We used to have VNC installed on a few machines a couple of years ago but we removed it. Is the latest version of VNC sufficient (security wise)? Can you share your experience with us please? Suggestions or comments welcomed. Thanks! Marty __________________________________________________________ Lèche-vitrine ou lèche-écran ? magasinage.yahoo.ca
