RE: Possible new virus?

Or maybe a special event? Were the three co-located? I created a lot of dust bunnies in my basement once and two months later three systems (in basement) fans failed within twelve hours (a power supply fan on one box, a cpu fan on another box, and a graphics card chipset fan on yet another box) Sometimes life is stranger than fiction. Be glad you are hearing something. My systems toasted in the night. Power supply shutoff due to heat (that saved it), graphics card barfed and hung the system, but survived the heat, cpu melted down and died. cpu did alarm, but heated up so fast, I didn't realize what it was (having never overheated before) and then it cut off (died) so I didn't find it until morning. -----Original Message----- From: Bacchus Apollonius [mailto:sleepwalker () saintly com] Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2003 4:40 PM To: compjma () hotmail com; security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: RE: Possible new virus? Hail,-- In the original post the poster noted that he/she "wouldn't think twice if it hadn't happened to 3 computers from 3 different vendors in 2 days". What are the chances of three different CPU-fans (or whatever) in three different systems dying natural deaths in 48 hours with the same BIOS message despite being from different vendors?... Bootsector virus, perhaps?.... Do you know if the fans are still in fact running? Accompanying this is a high-pitched tone from the PC speaker.
Ahem...Perhaps a warning tone that YOUR COOLING SYSTEM HAS FAILED?? This is not a security question, I'm not sure how it made it on to the list, but please take it to a hardware support forum. Most likely the fan is full of crud and has overloaded the fan header, try cleaning the fan, and swapping to a different header.
