It also seg faults on SuSE7.0 and RedHat 6.2. On SuSE it core dumps:)

Just for future reference, if something segfaults and doesn't core dump, it
could be a ulimit. As root, try something like:
ulimit -c 4000
Then reproduce the condition that caused the segfault and it should dump
core.
