snort inline

hi.i use this command : "snort -Q --daq nfq -c /etc/snort/snort.conf".nothing happend.with nfq daq snort -v dont 
work.but with dump-afpacket it is work but i write i rule in local.rules with reject action but dont work.
how can i config snort to act as IPS? are change in linux os is requierd(linux must be in bridge mode)?
are change in iptables is requierd for snort to act as ips?
i am a beginner in snort.snort manual is not sufficient for me to understand snort?
