Did you also compile with the --with-mysql option.  Its more helpful to list
all the things you have tried and/or done so far than just say you can't get
it to work.  You end up with a bunch of responses telling you 20 things to
do and you may have already done them all.

Sorry if this sounds like a lame response but have you set up all your
tables, given correct permissions, does your user and password match in your
snort.conf file? I would take a look at patrick harper's install guide. On
pages 16 & 17 he goes into the steps of setting up the snort db. 

Again sorry if this response is too simple or whatever....

I hate doing this as I know how much everyone hates newbie questio! n, but I

am new to SNORT and cannot get SNORT to log to the MySQL database on my box.

As far as I can tell all I need do is add the correct user name and password

to the database line in the SNORT.conf file. However when I add this line it

doesn't log to the database and it stops loggin the log files it logged to 
prior. Is there something else I am missing here? Any ideas on debugging 
this?
