having a reliable (and automatable) way of contacting the owner of a PC at a given IP would be a major step forward in combatting email born viruses. You mean implement IPv6/Ipsec across the board? It adds MAC addresses in addition to IP addresses to the payload. no, having a fixed ID is not what I'm after. I want to be able to email the owner of the PC that sent me a virus. eg, do some whois style command on the IP to findout out if it is static, or dynamic. if static, then have some mapping from ip to email. if dynamic, then have a contact email for the isp.
