I suspect the Visual C++ 2008 SP1 redistributable installer fixes this

Perhaps we should consider moving Nmap to Visual C++ 2008 SP1? It's almost
impossible to get hold of the original RTM release of VC++ 2008.

That makes sense to me. I just upgraded to Visual C++ 2008 Express
SP1 (http://www.microsoft.com/express/vc/) and made some minor Nmap
changes and it now compiles fine with this version. I also updated
vcredist_x86.exe to the 2008 SP1 version. MS did bloat it to more
than double its previous size:

-rw------- 1 fyodor fyodor 1821192 2008-06-15 17:39 vcredist_x86.exe
-rw-rw-r-- 1 fyodor fyodor 4216840 2009-04-25 13:23 vcredist_x86.exe

With the new vcredist and the new compiler version, our setup.exe
expands from 13 megs to 15 megs and our win32.zip from 4 megs to 7
megs. I don't think there is much we can really do about that.

I hope to do a new release on Monday or Tuesday which will be built
with the new compiler version.

Cheers,
