The mythbusters tested this.

As it turns out, the "textbook" process is not necessarily the most efficient, but is a combination of good
efficiency and acceptable to passengers

The fastest way is total chaos -- board at will, no assigned seats -- but passengers liked that least of all.

JetBlue is adopting WilMA.

From the article:

....
Another popular way to board planes is the "WilMA" method, for window, middle, aisle. Passengers board the plane at
the window seats first, middle seats second, and aisle seats last. Again, this method is also supposed to minimize
aisle congestion during the boarding process. The WilMA experiment took only 14 minutes, 55 seconds. Participants
gave this method the most favorable score overall. This also proved that the method used by most airlines (back to
front) is not the best in terms of efficiency nor customer enjoyment.
....

One does wonder how they'll handle families sitting together, etc...

Dave, hi and good afternoon!

JetBlue is rolling out what scientists believe to be a textbook-perfect boarding process. Passengers with rear
window seats will be the first to board, followed by those in the rear middle seats and forward window seats and so
on.

This means that passengers traveling together in the same row can't board together of course, which will generate
some ill will towards the airline (it actually already has, based on what I'm hearing).

JetBlue to Unveil New Boarding Process
http://accura.cc/st72pi

"JetBlue Airways announced it will introduce a new boarding process.

"The new method will be based on the type of aircraft and the passenger’s seat assignment, namely window seat,
middle seat, or aisle seat.

"JetBlue will board those passengers traveling in Mint on aircraft with a Mint cabin as well as those with TrueBlue
Mosaic elite status first. The next group, Group A, will be for those passengers in the airline’s Even More Space …
