History tends to prove my point.

I beg to disagree. History proves the exact opposite point.

The last great democracy before ours, in Athens, lasted a mere couple of hundred
of years and was continually marked by in-fighting and wars of conquest, with
the mob appeal of conquest being the eventual fall of Athens.

On the other hand, great oligarchies, such as the Roman Catholic Church, have
lasted for at least 1,500 years -- and some would argue that its reach has been
nearly the full 2 millenia of its existence.

Don't claim to use history to prove a point if you don't know your history!

Actually, Athens was a REAL democracy. Every *citizen* could vote. This
obviously led to groups of power which may have well have been oligarchy.

The Church is not a country. Rome was a republic.
