So Brian, just how many more guns is going to take in private hands to bring the U.S. crime rate to the U.K. crime rate? http://tinyurl.com/2bcjek U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said. U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies. About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said.

In 2005, there were 419,000 crimes using guns in the U.S. The population of the U.S. is approximately 5 times larger than the U.K. Home come we *18* times the number of crimes involving guns per capita than the UK? RichardI think you missed the point - guns are BANNED in the UK (have they banned swords yet? Knives too, right?). Besides, crime has been falling in the US for several years while it has been climbing in other countries. Another key to look at is type of crime. For instance, the UK has 10 times as many (if I recall the comparison correctly - and I may not be) the number of "hot burglaries" - presumably because the criminals in the UK are armed and not worried about their victims being armed (since, after all, the victims are generally law abiding citizens and not "allowed" to possess tools of self-defense). BUT, lets not continue this discussion here, I do not wish to "offend" the poor folks who are reading for fun security related topics only and there's nothing funny about not being able to provide your own security.
