I think you missed the point - guns are BANNED in the UK (have they
banned swords yet? Knives too, right?).

Besides, crime has been falling in the US for several years while it
has been climbing in other countries.

Another key to look at is type of crime. For instance, the UK has 10
times as many (if I recall the comparison correctly - and I may not
be) the number of "hot burglaries" - presumably because the criminals
in the UK are armed and not worried about their victims being armed
(since, after all, the victims are generally law abiding citizens and
not "allowed" to possess tools of self-defense).

BUT, lets not continue this discussion here, I do not wish to "offend"
the poor folks who are reading for fun security related topics only
and there's nothing funny about not being able to provide your own
security.
