All email is equal, but some email is more equal than others ...

Which prompts me to observe...

Last week (or a little further back) there was moderate indignation at
the suggestion that SBC (??) or some other large carrier was looking to
charge the operators of popular target sites (like Google, MSN, Yahoo!)
to guarantee what was essentially "preferential treatment" for traffic
destined for those target domains from the carrier's customers.

There doesn't seem to be the same level of (if any) indignation over
this suggestion.
