I have used diald and pppd in combination with the ipfwadm package's
ability to masquerade IP addresses and built a LAN which allows
workstations on a LAN with an unroutable network number to access
Internet services.

The dialup server assigns a dynamic IP addresss to the PPP interface.
diald handles the dialout function and the dynamic routing configuration.
The masquerading function in ipfwadm masquerades the internal IP
addresses.  It is a pretty simple setup.  I can send you the details if
you want them.

This is not an application proxy configuration, although it should
be a simple matter to add the FWTK to the configuration if you want
application proxies.  It also does not handle inbound NAT.

diald is available from most Linux archive sites.  The rest of the
software comes with most Linux distributions.
