In our lab we named all the Windows machines after versions of hell in various relgions and myth (e.g. Hades, abbadon, Tartarus) All the printers were places in the OZ stories by L. Frank Baum (eg, kansas, oz, ix, ev) And all the other machines were (and usually still are) named after places from legend, fantasy and science fiction (dorsai, barsoom, pern, dune, olympus, omelas, asgard,...). We have way more names than machines, and we sometimes come up with interesting things for others to read!
