To follow up on Cal's point:

Do all the schools which require remote wipe capability require the
same standard for laptops?  Offsite desktops? It seems odd to worry so
much about iphones if you allow people to pull down email to an end
point device ever...

And what is to stop one from forwarding from one's college email account
to the personal one one uses on their personal Blackberry?
