I'll second using Nessus and Metasploit.  Excellent products and the
price is right.  You do have to know what you are doing or looking at to
a significant degree, of course, with either of these products.

For us it is primarily Nessus.  It is great and the price is right.  I
used Core Security's Core Impact for a number of years.  It is very
nice, but the price is definitely not comparable to Nessus.

If you are looking for advanced pen testing, Metasploit's Framework has
worked very nicely.  Again, pricepoint is ideal.
