From the email responses it seems that truecrypt is commonly mentioned.

I'm interested in finding out more information from those who have
used it, such as, how long have you used it, have you had any
difficulties with it, is there any support issues since it is free open source.

Yea, I would have to agree... the more I use it, the more I like it. And
it's cross platform, double bonus....
