Encrypting Data-in-Transit

Curious as to what everyone is using to encrypt "confidential" or
"restricted" data-in-transit that is being sent:

(1) to/from Windows PCs and WinServers -- via ftp and/or eMail,

(2) to/from WinServers and WinServers -- via ftp,

(3) to/from MVS (z/OS) mainframes and WinServers, and/or

(4) to/from MVS (z/OS) mainframes and Linux Servers.

On the other hand, if you've looked at encrypting such transmissions and
decided otherwise, I'd love to hear your thoughts/findings.

Thank you,
