We allow students almost unlimited access to our network from anywhere on
campus.
We have just installed a product called "Roving Planet" that uses active
directory (it could also use LDAP or RADIUS) to control access to our
wireless network. Wired ports are currently open, but we intend to bring
them under "Roving Planet's" control in the near future.

Many of our students live in campus housing, so they are registered in our
ResNet which requires a stringent nessus scan before they are given access
to resnet. We preach security and anti-virus updates. We have several
methods in place to spot and deny access to problem machines, so we have had
a reasonably smooth fall startup.

Subject: [SECURITY] Allowing Student Laptops to Connect to School Network

We've been asked to come up with a proprosal for allowing students to
bring their personal laptops on campus and connect to our network. At
best we're looking at simply Internet access. At worst we're looking at
access to their network drive, printing, and wireless access. Currently,
students need to log into a Microsoft domain on a school computer to get
their network drive, Internet access, and to print.

Do any of you have to provide Internet and/or network access to your
students personal computers? How did you go about this? What security
issues have you encountered?
