We have had a managed desktop strategy at the University of Alaska Southeast for quite a few years now. As others have noted, it was a major effort to implement the strategy in the open educational culture. When we first started, the move was motivated by tight budgets and the need to provide high support with virtually no staff. Budgets are not as tight, but the network threats are much more extreme. My sense is that people are more tolerant of managed desktops now. In part, this is due to increased security awareness. - Michael ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Discussion Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/groups/.
