Simple questions, simple answers! :)

1) Not really. You might be able to find if you're being subjected to a man-in-the-middle attack and you *probably* 
would be able to see issues if you're normally using encryption, but for a vague answer to the vague question, you have 
no assurance in detecting it.

2) It does not need an IP address.
