Hey Craig,

Thanks for your info! I want to ask about the course. Apart from the
material, is there any way I can get just the topics' list and coverage
jist for GSEC.

Hi Ron,
I have these all. They are good introductory books and definitely worth
getting if you plan to do the GSEC. I use them as prep material in
training my staff.

The first book is particularly good for the tools focus. It is a simple
how to for a number of the common tools in a simple easy to use step by
step format.

Regards,
Craig

I did see those on Amazon. Have you read any of them yourself?

Did you read the comments people are leaving about the books?

Go to Amazon - there are at least 3 GSEC books. At least 2 of them are
easy to find and both are directly focused on the course - one being
written by the course authors.

Hey Ron,

I'm not aware of any books available for the GSEC. You really need to
get the SANS Material to do well on the test, as the questions are
directly based on what's in those books.

The best way to get the GSEC on a budget is to participate in the
work-study program. It'll still cost you 500 bucks, and they'll work
you pretty hard at the conference, but you get the full coursework and
the exam attempt. Plus, you meet all sorts of cool people, interact
more closely with the instructors, and just get a better understanding
of how everything works. It's invaluable.

Another cheaper route is the local mentoring program. You should have a
class in your area. It takes, IIRC, about 3 months for the program to
conclude. You'll be responsible for learning the coursework while your
mentor is there to explain anything that's not clear and generally
reinforce the stuff you learn in the books.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
