RE: Value of certifications

I would agree with the fact that the CISSP holds weight in the industry.
When I was consulting, lots of gigs were not available to me because I
did not have my CISSP. Ignore the fact that I have over 10 years
experience and have lectured nation wide! No CISSP, No gig.

I would recommend getting the CISSP.

If you don't have much security experience, start with the Security+,
then the CISSP. The CISSP isn't necessarily for management, but
security consultants. Both are vendor neutral certifications. And as
far as how much weight each one has, I think anyone you asked would say
the CISSP definitely has more weight in the industry.

good luck.
