However, I found a strange thing residing at 192.168.15.2, which ran something by Marconi called Element Manager. My network starts at 192.168.0.x, so I was wondering if this is still in the realm of a private network (so far as IP assignment) and if anyone had any info on what exactly this is.
The netmask for 192.168.*.* is usually exactly that, i.e., 255.255.0.0. You may or may not have set things up more tightly. For instance, my network has first one router, with 192.168.254.* under its control, of which one element is another router, with 192.168.2.* under its control. If anything outside those two ranges appear on my network, Something Is Wrong. -Dave
