One of our users has received questionable and possibly life threatening

Of course, we are not YAHOO so we cannot determine anything about the mail
other than the content.

How can we find out who sent this?

Likely you alone will not be able to. I know we do not and cannot
release information like that without either consent (which in this
case will not be desirable to obtain) or a document from the court
(search warrent, cipena (I know I spelled that wrong), etc.)

There are laws in some nations (like here in Canada) that say threats
are bad (an arrestable offense maybe). I would phone the police, and
they can direct you how to proceed.

It is possible they can obtain the information from Yahoo, while you
will not be able to.
