ET/VRT aside, I'm biased there. But the snort/suricata thing, yes. I think that's a good way to put it. Snort is a 
great tool, but there's something new to try that can stretch its legs a bit further.

Personally, after running the VRT ruleset for many years, I am disappointed with the quality of rules, frequency of 
update, and the closed source of some of the rules.

If you want my opinion, screw VRT, go with ET, and seriously, seriously consider a contengency plan to move to 
suricata.  Don't get me wrong, I have *a lot* of respect for snort but it is time to move on.
