Pushing MS hot fixes & service packs?

Slightly off topic... direct email would be appreciated. A corporate client has asked what folks are using to "push" MS hot fixes and service packs to user workstations. What do you or your companies use/recommend to update about 400+ workstations, mostly LAN based but a very small number are remote WAN based (with either 56k or 128k links)? This is a 99% MS shop, small staff, and they've got a bad taste for SMS already (never made it to production). Thoughts / recommendations / etc appreciated. (No, they have no current interest in Linux, etc, at this time.)
