Great news nonetheless! I'm looking forward to -iR support for -6 :) cheers, jah
- -iR will probably never be a v6 feature. The whole notion of scanning a whole network to find hosts (say, a /24) is gone with v6. The smallest local network offered by v6 is a /64 which simply can not be scanned. Now, there is more than likely going to be some sort of automatic DNS AAAA name registration system which people (and Nmap) will still be able to use to find hosts. This may be similar to how reverse lookups work today with IPv4. Even scanning local networks will require Nmap to make use of the multicast Neighbor Discovery (ND) protocol which is the v6 ARP replacement. For the foreseeable future though, scanning v6 hosts will be limited to those you explicitly know about either by name or have out-of-band knowledge of their v6 address. v6 is awesome but makes our job as Nmap developers quite a bit harder.
