"Clearly" many companies have found that 'outsourcing dialup adds a layer of necessary security to the mail server', so instead of just opening their mail servers to the world, they have found a cost of doing business that way is a slight inconvenience in the way mail is sent, either via POP-before-SMTP, or via having the user use their local dialup's SMTP server.

TANSTAAFL, Dean. You want the cheap convenience of outsourced dialup, the price is that securing the mail server requires a little effort. If you don't want that hassle, then you put in your own dialups.

This is not quantum physics, this is simply a cheaper solution not necessarily being an EASIER solution. You want Cheap and Easy which doesn't happen.

Thats nonsensical. Clearly, if one is going to offer outsourced services
for which relays are necessary, one must operate open relays.
